WSYL Preview: The Predictions

The World Series of Youth Lacrosse is just over a week away.  Today Andrew Onodera has the fifth of a five part series previewing this year’s event taking place July 2nd through the 4th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, northeast of Denver, Colorado.

After researching all 24 teams and writing division-by-division previews, Andrew Onodera is ready to share his predictions for the 2017 World Series of Youth Lacrosse. Here are the two teams that will advance out of each division, as well as the projected champion.

Blue division qualifiers

So Cal Express is the real deal and will prove to be unbeatable in pool play.

Legacy Lacrosse Long Island, New York 4-1 vs Igloo Lacrosse
Legacy Lacrosse will fall just shy of getting the #1 seed out of the Blue Division, but they will set themselves up for a 2016 championship game rematch is this year’s quarterfinals.

Igloo is going to be hungry for revenge after last year’s championship loss. They’ll get their shot at revenge in this year’s quarterfinals.

ADVNC National 2022 Bay Area, California 3-2 vs So Cal Express
ADVNC has a lot of potential when it comes to scoring goals. They’ll put this offensive firepower to the test in their quarterfinal matchup that I have officially dubbed, “The Battle for California.”

Team Colorado Outlaws Denver, Colorado 5-0 vs LI Express 2022
Team Colorado will end up being the story of the tournament. This team will make the semifinals and could easily be playing in the championship.

Edge Lacrosse Ontario, Canada 4-1 vs API Diamondbacks
Edge’s Canadian style of play will confuse many American defenses and will propel them into the quarterfinals.

Gold Division Qualifiers

API Diamondbacks is a team with a lot of depth. This will help them in the later rounds of the tournament.

LI Express will be able to advance out of the group. Their first major test will come against Colorado in the quarterfinals.

So Cal Express is filled with tons of talented players. The way they move the ball is unprecedented at this age, making their offense extremely efficient. In the end, the title of “World Champions” will most likely be heading to Southern California.
